Work Outlines
Summer Term

English
Novels, stories,
and poems from a variety of cultures and traditions will be studied
this term. Children will read and evaluate letters from a variety
of media (e.g. newspapers and magazines) that are intended to
inform protest or complain. Individual spelling lists will be
given and these will be given for homework each Monday and tested
the following Monday.
Maths
All children will
continue to bring homework each Monday. This should be worked
on during the week at home and returned by Friday. Children will
also have a weekly times Tables Test and so will have tables
to learn on a weekly basis.

Topic
Science, ICE, Geography,
Art History, Music and Design and Technology will be taught through
the topic "Planet Earth".
The topic will be launched
with a trip to the National Space Centre where the children will
take part in many interactive challenges. Back at school the
children will be learning about the planets, shadows day and
night and will be doing an assembly for all parents in May.
The children will be finding out about changes in life style
since 1948. They will be listening to the Planet Suite by Hoist
and then designing a musical instrument to make their own space
music.
Children will be using textiles to retell events from the past.
The children will be investigating plants and how micro-organisms
can be beneficial.
Children will be using ordnance survey maps to look at local
developments. They will present their findings using ICE.

P.S.H.E.
Children will learn
about changes as they approach the last part of Year 5. They
will also be learning about how to form strong and positive relationships
with adults and their peers.
P.E.
In P.E., the children
will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of dance.
In swimming children will increase confidence in the water and
develop the three main strokes of front crawl, back crawl and
breast stroke.

The overall aim of
this terms work is the Rules for living. The children will be
learning about the 10 commandments and how rules can improve
life in society. |
