Topic
Our topic for the summer term is Tudors and Stuarts. The children will cover a range of subjects based around this main topic.
They will research some of the explorers who were important in the Tudor times such as Magellan and Columbus. They will discover the journeys they took and all that they discovered.
The children will learn about the monarchy in Tudor times, in particular Henry VIII. They will carry out research into how he lived his life and how he influenced the lives of people in Tudor times and even our lives today.
We will be finding out what life was like in Stuart times and looking into some of the major events that took place in this time including The Great Fire of London and The Plague.
The children will have the opportunity to design and make their own photograph frames. They will look at a range of existing photograph frames and how they are designed. The children will use a range of joining techniques to allow their frame to be free standing. They will then evaluate how successful they have been and suggest any improvements that could be made.
We will be studying a range of Tudor and Stuart portraits and discussing the relationships portrayed in these paintings. The children will be given the opportunity to draw and paint their own family portrait. We will cover a range of geographical skills and carry out research from books, videos and the internet about what life is like in other countries around the world. The children will use this information to create their own 'passport' of countries around the world.
For music the children will use their voices and a range of tuned and untuned instruments to compose and perform a sustained piece. They will have the opportunity to wok with their peers.

R.E.
The children will be looking at signs. These will include road, information signs, and also religious symbols. They will learn to recognise important signs and symbols and explain what each one means.
Later in the term we will be looking at how God chose special people-in particular Saul, Ruth, David. They will consider how their lives changed after they were chosen by God.

M.F.L.
The children will learn a range of everyday words in different languages. These will include colours, foods, greetings and days of the week and months of the year. They will do this through a range of approaches including interactive games.

P.E.
This term your children will participate in athletics and rounders. In games lessons we will be working at developing skills associated to the mini-game of rounders and improving the athletic performance of pupils in running, jumping and throwing events. Also this term your child will participate in pool based activities designed to increase confidence in the water, promote life saving skills and to further develop their development in the three main strokes.

Science

We will be covering the topic of 'Teeth and Eating'. The children will learn about the five main food groups and discuss the importance of having a healthy, balanced
diet. They will look into the diets of different animals being able to group them as herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. They will also look at the different types of teeth that humans and animals have and learn about the function that the different types of teeth serve.
The children will explore and explain the forces of attraction and repulsion. Through practical activities they will explore the force of attraction between magnets and magnetic materials. They will use scientific methods to measure forces and the direction in which they act.
