The school is continuing to follow Renewed Framework for literacy. The children will be looking at extended stories by popular authors and they will learn how to use information books and write non-chronological reports. Help at home is greatly appreciated.

Maths

This term we will continue to follow the Renewed Framework for maths.
For further information please refer to the Maths outlines.

Our topic this term will be 'Worldwide Explorers'. A number of subjects will be covered over the next twelve weeks.

Healthy Lifestyles Week

All children at Potters Green will be taking part in Healthy Lifestyles Week. This will involve four days of active learning where the children will encounter different sports and food that aim to keep people healthy.

Other areas of the curriculum:
Science, ICT, Technology, History, Geography, R.E. and, Art, P.S.H.E will be taught through the following topics:

Summer 1
We will be looking at different holidays and comparing them. We will research the different activities that may happen on these holidays and why people might choose to go to certain destinations. We will also look at the history of different holidays.
Our science focus will be on 'materials' and we will link this to our holiday theme by investigating the best materials for a tent and sleeping bag. The children will get the opportunity to build a tent and test how well it 'holds up' in different circumstances.
We will also have an RE focus where children will study the Sikhism religion and participate in activities related to this. We will also be inviting visitors from the Sikh faith to come and share their experiences and knowledge.

Summer 2
We will spend 2 weeks looking at 'Africa'. We will cover map skills and compare Africa to England. We will look at the different environments of the desert and woodland and link this to our work on 'Minibeasts' in Science. The children will also link work in the creative arts to customs and traditions in Africa.
The children will use their design skills to plan and make a minibeast puppet. They will learn how to assemble and combine materials together. They will also develop their sewing skills. At the end the children will evaluate their effectiveness.
We will also be studying a unit of MFL (Modern Foreign Languages). This will involve looking at many languages including French, Spanish, Polish and Punjabi.

Music
The children will be developing their notation and composing skills after listening to music. They will also be using a variety of instruments, including the djembe drums.
They will also be learning to play the recorder.

P.E.
Gymnastics: The children will be learning to move safely around different pathways, on and around large apparatus.
(Thursday) Please bring PE kits.
Swimming: We will be developing various swimming techniques. The children will be progressing at their own pace.
