Work Outlines

Summer Term

2010

English

The school is continuing to follow the Renewed framework. The children will be looking at stories about fantasy worlds and poems. They will look at words with common spelling patterns such as 'ee' 'ai' 'ie' 'oa' and 'oo', continue to work on sentence construction and the use of capital letters and question marks. The children will be learning to use adjectives and openers. (WOW words).
They will also be learning to plan a story with a beginning, middle and end.



Maths

This term we will continue to follow the Renewed Framework. They will bring home a new maths target to practise. They will be learning how to add and subtract larger numbers. They will be solving 'real life' problems involving time, weight and money.

Other areas of the curriculum:

Science, ICT, Technology, History, Geography, RE, P.S.H.E. Music and PE will be taught through the following topics:

Around Our School
The children will look at the different journeys people take.
They will look at different methods of transport used by people and environmentally friendly options.
Children will use maps to negotiate themselves around school and the local area and will look at local landmarks.
We will be learning about the wildlife in and around our school and their life cycles.
We are looking to develop of outdoor area and the children will be taking part in this.

Summer
The children will begin to describe seasonal changes and they will make simple charts to record the weather. They will use ICT to draw pictures to show things which occur in the summer. They will be taught about how to keep safe in the sun.
We will be learning how plants grow and what they need in order to do this.

Music
The children will look at musical instruments. They will use non tuned percussion to accompany various songs and rhymes.

P.E.
Games on a Wednesday: We will be learning the skills and rules to play team games. All children will need an outdoor kit consisting of; T shirt/sweatshirt (if cold), Jogging bottoms/shorts, Trainers.

Swimming on a Thursday: We will be developing the children's confidence in the water.
The children will be progressing at their own pace. Swimming will start the week beginning 26th April.

 How You Can Help

  • Read with your child several times each week.
  • Talk to them about topics.
  • Practise Maths targets.
  • Learn spellings.
