Summer Term
2010
|
Welcome back for the
summer term. This term we will be focusing on letter sounds and
actions in our key group time. The children will learn an action
to accompany each letter sound.
We will continue to name write but will extend the children's
writing by asking them to write some of the sounds they can hear
in words. Please help your child to grip a pencil using a pinchy
grip.
We are always collecting junk for modelling so please send any
in which you might have.
Please discourage your child from bringing in any toys to
school as these can get easily lost or broken and this may cause
unnecessary distress.
If you have any questions or concerns please speak to your child's
key worker.

How You Can Help
- Ensure your child has
a sun hat in their bag and that you have applied sun cream before
they come to school as we will be outside daily.
- 'Read stories with your
child several times each week and talk to them about what has
happened in the story, what will happen next and what can they
see in each picture. Ask them did they enjoy the book and why
- ask if they can pick out any letters they recognise. Follow
the words with your finger as you read them. Discussions are
equally as important in learning to read and appreciate books.
Don't forget to complete your child's book share diary when they
bring home a new library book.
- Help your child to learn
the jolly phonics actions and sounds for all of the alphabet
letters.
- When you are out with
your child, look for letters they recognise. Try to help them
find initial sounds in words i.e d for dog, e for elephant.
- Continue to play simple
number games but extend this further by asking them to tell you
how many more they would have if you gave them another item.
i.e. if I gave you another sweet how many would you have altogether?
- Encourage your child
to use pencils for drawing and mark-making where possible. Encourage
them to practice writing different letters that they have been
learning and to find the letters they can recognise in their
name. . Check to see if they hold their pencil correctly using
a 'Pinchy Pinchy' grip.
- If you child completed
a drawing ask them to 'write' what they have drawn and bring
it to school to show us.
