UNICEF Haitian Appeal
We have raised an amazing £706.62 for this very worthwhile appeal. The staff planned some great activities such as: wear your pyjamas to school, numerous cake sales and we even built silhouette houses out of coins. All of the money raised will go directly to UNICEF.

Lottery Funding for Cookery club
Our school has been very lucky to have been chosen to receive funding from the 'Let's Get Cooking Fund' from the National Lottery Trust we have used this money to set up a new cookery club. Grace Academy have been very supportive of our new project and allow us use of their food technology rooms for our 'Creative Cookery' club.
As part of the project the 'Business in the Community' organisation arranged for a group of volunteers from 'The Learning and Skills Council' to construct a new school vegetable garden for us. The garden has seven raised beds constructed using railway sleepers and three beds constructed from used car tyres.
In our garden we grow a wide range of vegetables and herbs including; raspberries, broccoli, salad leaves, asparagus, shallots, peas, rosemary, parsley, mint and chives, amongst others. We have a group of ten gardeners from Year 6 who maintain the garden. We have a water butt to recycle our rainwater in order to water the plants.
We have a planting schedule for the year and hope to grow a wide range of fruits, vegetables and herbs that all the children in the school can taste. So far, we have used some of our foods in our cookery club and our Year 6 gardeners have been able to take some foods home.
We hope that the garden will be a very successful long term project!

  Healthy Eating Week

After a very successful 'Healthy Eating Week' back in the Spring term, Miss Allen talked to the children to find out what they had learnt during the week and if they had changed any of their eating habits as a result. If you would like to read the children's responses please click on this link.

   Healthy Lunch boxes

There is increasing concern about rising rates of obesity and related health problems in children. We have produced a leaflet to help you make healthier packed lunches for your children. The guidelines in the leaflet are based on the school's food policy. Please click on the link below to download a copy. 'Healthier Packed Lunches for Children'

Aspiration Friday

Every Friday is Aspiration Friday at Potters Green School! We have already had some visitors who have inspired children to aim for goals in their life. If you would like to come and talk about your career, past and present, or hobbies and interests then contact your child's teacher to arrange a visit. If you are a member of the local community who feels they have a lot to offer our potential stars of the future then contact the school office.
If you met your aspirations please come and guide the next generation on their journey-they'd love to meet you!

There are plenty of adults helping out and the bus has become very popular with our children. If you would like to join the walking bus please contact Fiona Smith at the school for further information.

We are currently looking for more volunteers to extend the areas served by Potters Green Walking Bus. If you would like more information please click on the link below to download the information.
