 Coventry Telegraph Schools Awards 2010
Thursday 8th July 2010, Potters Green School have won the 'Healthy Living Award' in the Coventry Telegraph Schools Awards. A group of 3 pupils and 3 members of staff attended the awards ceremony a the Coventry Motor Museum.
Class Teacher Karla Allen submitted a very detailed portfolio containing all of the activities available for our pupils. The children are constantly being encouraged to live a 'Healthy Lifestyle'. Local theatre groups have visited and taught the chidren about healthy eating and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Volunteers from the local Learning and Skills Council have taught the pupils how to construct a vegetable and herb garden which is now maintained by a group from Year 6. They grow a profusion of vegetables and herbs including potatoes, broccoli, asparagus, rhubarb, mint, parsley and thyme.
A group of pupils have formed an 'Eco Army' who check that electricity, water and other expensive commodities are not wasted.
Lunchtimes are cool at Potters Green! Music is played and we have 'Themed' lunches such as Chinese New Year and St. Georges Day. All in all, Potters Green is a thriving, fun and VERY healthy place to learn and grow.
The low fat sugar free icing on the cake is that a recent Ofsted inspection graded Potters Green School as OUTSTANDING in the field of healthy living activities.
